One of the most important things you, as a parent, can do to set your child up for success is to plan their practice times around landmark events in the day. It helps if your "time to practice now" triggers are the same every day. Here are a couple to get you started:
- following the "after-school snack"
- following dinner
- before bed
- before or after lunch (good for kindergartners)
- first thing in the morning (that was mine as a kid!)
Choose a cue that fits your family & give it an honest try for a couple of weeks. As we both know, if an event isn't penciled into our days, it likely isn't going to happen!
